Trump is aiming to wrest control of the RNC by muscling Whatley through in an orchestrated ouster of the organization's current chair, Ronna McDaniel. Yet for much of his professional life, Whatley's political sensibilities appeared to align far more closely with the party’s mainstream and corporate establishment. Later, he clerked for a federal judge in North Carolina before departing for Washington as Bush campaigned for the presidency. And a lot of people in North Carolina don’t think he was elected fair,” said Anderson Clayton, chairwoman of the North Carolina Democratic Party. Art Pope, a North Carolina businessman and major conservative donor, said Whatley was well-equipped to lead the organization.

A Siemens electric vehicle charging station is displayed during an event a day ahead of the official opening of the 2023 Munich Auto Show IAA Mobility, in Munich, Germany, September 4, 2023. The Siemens Foundation is partnering with the North Carolina Business Committee for Education and the Michigan-based Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program (EVITP). Siemens Foundation partners also include the National League of Cities and the National Governors Association. Etzwiler said the initiative will emphasize training for individuals in underserved and underrepresented communities, providing a path to well-paying, long-lasting jobs in the EV charging sector. Automakers support the foundation's efforts to "ensure that we've got a network of chargers across the country" to support accelerating EV production, Etzwiler said.

Hauser is originally from Wisconsin and moved to North Carolina seven years ago for work. And questions over abortion rights are fueling concerns about the future of access to birth control and gender-affirming care. The North Carolina Business Council, for one, declined to comment because this is "not an area of focus" for the group. Chuck Bryan is an IT professional who moved to North Carolina from Florida five years ago. He cited Kansas' referendum to preserve abortion rights as an example of what can happen when people use their voice in politics.
